Whether you write fiction or non-fiction, articles, blog posts or novels, it’s always good to have a little help. The following are some of the best books for writers you will find and they’re the ones I have found most useful.
Whether you are just starting out or further along in your writing journey, it’s probably safe to say you never stop learning.
This list is by no means comprehensive, but it’s a good place to start without getting overwhelmed with too much information. At the very least, if you are serious about writing, you should definitely invest in the first one, The Elements of Style.
If your grammar is a bit shaky, get yourself a copy of The Elements of Style by Strunk and White. This little book has been recommended by many writers, because it is so good. A pocket book; it contains clear and concise instructions on grammar and style. Essential if you wish to pursue a career in writing.
For fiction writers especially but also useful for improving any writing, Stephen King’s On Writing – A Memoir of the Craft is an excellent book. It would be hard not to get anything from this book and much of Stephen’s advice stays with you. The very first piece of advice he gives is, ‘Read a lot and write a lot,’ and if you want to develop as a writer, it really is as simple as that.
